Do you remember the fun of dyeing Easter Eggs and trying to get different colors by leaving the eggs in the dye bath longer, or mixing colors together? We have that kind of fun here at the Fortress weekly on Dyeing Day. Our Goodwife selects dyes from native plants and then choses a mordant. Different mordants change the color of the finished product. Sometimes she uses onion skins to get a pretty yellowish color. Sometimes it is a green shade from ferns or sumac. Or brown from walnut hulls. Here we see Catherine proudly showing off shades of blue (my favorite) derrived from indigo.
