Luke began working a forge at age 13 when his home school group went on a field trip to see a knife-maker. Having always been intrigued by knives and swords, young Luke went up to the knife-maker afterwards and asked if he would show him a few basics. The man agreed and soon Luke was at home with his own make-shift forge… a dirt pit, a fire, and a vacuum cleaner! Generally a self-taught blacksmith, Luke had the opportunity to attend a knife-making workshop in Old Washington (a living history pioneer village) for two weeks. It was there that he honed his skills and began the journey that he has been working toward. Thankfully for us, the castle is his first stop. Now, what began as a two-week volunteer position, has turned into his dream job and we would love for this to be is only stop along the way.
To be inspired by this young man, you need only to come by and chat awhile at the Blacksmith shop. But don’t worry if you miss him when you come. He has one prior commitment back home in Ava, Missouri during May… he has to attend his High School graduation! Welcome to the Castle, Luke! We are glad you’re here!

Luke, I recieved a knife that you made for a wedding present from my father-in-law. It was such an awesome gift and a real treasure. Your work on the knife was amazing and I look forward to meeting you some day at the castle.

Luke ! It means so much to know just what you want to do and what you want to be. From there you have the option of advancement without distraction, and all will progress in your chosen Path. It will truly all work together just take every chance as it is presented,to learn the old ways first they will endure your work. I’m proud of you!

Wow! How awesome that a 17 year old now has this position! It’s also really cool that he was home schooled. I was too, but I’m in college now (studying English and Medieval Studies) and I hope to get an internship at the Fortress sometime in the next few years.
