As part of the opening weekend activities at the Ozark Medieval Fortress members of the Bramble Schoole of Defence (a scholarly historical reenactment group based in Springfield, Missouri), Scott Crawford, Richard Swinney, Kirk Sullens will be displaying, discussing and demonstrating a wide array of weapons, equipment and techniques employed in medieval hunting.
Although no animals will be harmed during the demonstrations, the members of the Bramble Schoole are uniquely qualified to present this information as they have all employed medieval weapons and hunting techniques to legally take wild game.
Falconry is the taking of wild quarry with a trained bird of prey. Although this form of hunting has been practiced for thousands of years, it was particularly popular during the Middle Ages.
Hunting was a prominent part of medieval life, providing both food and recreation.
Inspired by the forest setting of the new castle, they decided that they will be dressed and equipped as huntsmen, patterned after and inspired by the text and illustrations from Gaston Phoebus’s “Livre de Chasse” (The Book of the Hunt).
Rather than doing set “shows”, they plan on moving throughout much of the site, interacting with visitors.
