Rocks, Rocks, Everywhere!

Ever heard of shoveling sand to mean an impossible task? Sometimes I think of that phrase when I look at all those rocks in the quarry and think about what needs to be done to turn them into a fortress. First the rocks need to be broken from the hillside. Then, often, split into smaller pieces for hauling. Someone needs to gather and transport the rocks to the site of the building. Some of them will go directly into the wall, some will need to be shaped to fit or for sills and lintels. Then they need to be placed carefully in the wall and mortared in (after the mortar is hand mixed). That rock is handled AT LEAST five times, and sometime more. Maybe we should change the prase to “shoveling rocks”?
