When you arrive at the Ozark Medieval Fortress, you and your class will experience a fascinating one-hour guided tour of the site.

During the tour you and your students will see and hear information about:

  • the whys and hows of the Ozark Medieval Fortress.
  • medieval culture and life.
  • castles and their origins.
  • the geometry of construction.
  • architectural styles and techniques.
  • the quarrying and shaping of stone.
  • the work of artisans.
 

Some ideas that you might want to discuss with your students before the visit are:

  • Food in the Middle Ages.
  • Feudalism from the point of view of the nobles, the peasants, and the skilled artisans.
  • the basic forms of Roman, Romanesque, and Gothic architecture.
  • Machines of war in the Middle Ages.
 
  • Louis IX, the original Saint-Louis, the king of France when the original model for the Ozark Medieval Fortress was constructed.
  • the lives of nobles, knights, and servants in a medieval castle.
  • the roles of the church in Medieval times – religion, politics, the life of the monks.
 
  • Medieval Ages and the Renaissance, and the differences between them.
